Sk..sk..sk..etches!

Concept sketches for the Area 51 Competition. You can see inspiration drawn from Invader Zim, but taken to a more realistic look and feel. Some ideas along the lines of Silent Hill were tossed about, but I'm still up in the air about that. I may go for the traditional protective suit, or opt for a head-swap of sorts and go with the scarier version.

The buttermuffin with the Greys was a cheerleader for the Warriors I saw on BART, while riding home from work. She appeared to be going to a game, with her carry-on and pom-poms in tow.

Uh... That was quick!

C'est fini!

More on the Inner Circle advert for KublaCon. Looking forward to seeing this completed. This has been a long process, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have to finish the Alien and special effects, then off to the printer!

Okay, I admit it...

...I liked the Dinotopia mini-series on SciFi.

KublaCon preparation

I volunteered to create the poster for the SF/Bay Area mini-painting group that will be hanging up at the KublaCon Paint and Take. Here's a WIP after a day's worth of work.

Lots of highlighting, shading, and texturing going on before it's done.

I will attend KublaCon this year and will hang at the Paint and Take. I am looking forward to a weekend that I can do nothing but paint and/or sculpt to my hearts content.

It's the little things that make life worth living, neh?

It is finished

Daemon Prince is done!

Progress

Jetpack is on. I want to deepen the shadows on the chainmail and redo some rivets, but for the most part the metals are done. Next are fiddly bits like straps and tubing. I'm saving the sword for last.

Good day

Games Workshop is holding the Citadel Celebration at the Metreon, and this month they had a 40K painting competition. I took two miniatures and entered their comp, and won 1st Place in Single Miniature, and Best Overall! That's a nice feeling! My son and I celebrated by playing Virtual Bowling.

Took my son to the Cartoon Museum while we were in SF. That's always fun, and seeing some of Charles Schulz' work first hand always inspires me to put pencil to paper. Lots of great artwork, and some original Yellow Kid cards. It's neat showing my son the beginning of cartoons and how they've grown over the years.

Good times!

And more on the Dee Pee. My hands are shaky from the Virtual Bowling game, so I only did metal basecoats:

40K just got sexy

Aerion the Faithful.

I have no idea who this mofo is, but his art style and images RAWK'd my eyeballs out of my head. Fucking Fantastic. 40K with an edge. Hawt. Sexey. When I grow up I wanna be Fulgrim.

I was in more of a mood to play Guitar Hero II with my son while sipping Pale Ales than I was in a painting mood. Damn him and his fast twich reflexes! Another game in which he defeats me without me letting him win!

But I got some nibbly bits done on the Dee Pee at least...

I stole the shoulder pad icon from Aerion the Faithful above. Artists are the best theives.

Snoogans.

He'll be done this weekend.

Doobie doobie doo

Slow progress, but he's getting there. Time for some freehand before the metals go on. I will paint the jetpack before I do any freehand work, so the colors are uniform.

8 Mile

Oops, I meant 8 hours. 8 hours to paint these freaking skin tones.

BLARGH!

In hindsight, it would have been easier to prime it white, paint the recesses with Shadow Grey, then highlight with Space Wolf Grey and Skull White.

Live 'n' Learn, sucka!

Not now, son. I'm making... TOAST!

New greens complete. These are for the Area 51 Competition.

Sasketchewan

Feeling randy and in an Emperor's Children mood, I sketched while catching the new Stargate episode. Trying out different ideas on Gluttony still. Also tried out the Keeper of Secrets with a feminine touch.

Wasted Days

I love days where I get to fuck off all day. Such is today! Woke up late, early day at the gym, (which rawks 'cuz there aren't any glam babes and posers cluttering the weight room). Feeling groovy. Time for some strong coffee and something to occupy my time, like modeling or sculpting.

Images from the movie Inquisitor. Enjoy the pics. I believe many of these were made by Nimba Creations.

I can just hear people's broadband screaming, and dial-up grinding to a halt trying to load this page.

Skekksis...er... Sketches

Working on roughs for my Emperor's Children army of Slaanesh. This unit is about Gluttony, but the bloated look lends thought to Nurgle. Dunno if I'll follow through with the fatties. I like the look of the skinny hillbilly Marine though, so I may go for the emaciated, wasted junkie look. He's based off of "The Devil's Rejects, directed by Rob Zombie.

And here's your moment of Zen:

Rest in peace, Johnny Hart

Just found out yesterday Johnny Hart of B.C. fame passed away. I was an avid reader of comics all throughout my childhood, even creating my own cartoon strips as a child. (And as an adult while serving in the military.) B.C. was always drawn well and funny more often than not. Yet what stood out with Mr. Hart was his faith in God. I remember reading some of his strips and seeing the message of Christ in them, not only shocked that someone had the cajones to do that, but also proud that he had the strength of faith to do that. We all know you can live alternative lifestyles or worship in any faith, but as soon as you say you are a Christian, people want to draw and quarter you in the City Center.

Mr. Hart, you had balls of solid rock. I hope you are enjoying your time up there with the Big Guy in the Sky. You earned it.

Irony

Back in the day, (which was a Wednesday if you ask Dane Cook), I was the odd-man out. As a youth, I was picked on mercilessly. I was what you would call a Nerd, true story. Loved running around the playground acting out Star Wars events or playing Dungeons and Dragons. Middle school was a bitch, and after the umpteenth beating I decided to change. I still remember walking down the gravel road to the mailbox, pissed off as only a 12 year old could be; fuming. And I decided to take responsibility and started to work out. Granted, growing up on a farm and working every day made me wiry and lean, but I wanted freakin' muscles. And after awhile, and puberty, I got stronger and bigger, learned how to fight, and my High School years were a lot better. Not the best, but better. I swear if I ever meet my High School nemesis again it's going to end up bloodily in a knife fight. Fucker.

Which comes to the here and now. I'm not into Star Wars anymore, and I haven't played AD&D in quite a long time. (Though I did play World of Warcraft, which is like AD&D only the game lasts FOREVER.) I like to go to conventions and for the most part, I never gave up weight lifting so I'm muscular and active, and I've gained a confidence that comes with feeling good about yourself. Which means when I go to gaming Conventions I'm once AGAIN the odd-man out!

I swear I can't win.

However, Dane Cook is one funny bitch.

Sketches

Concept sketches for miniatures. The god of the forge is for the 1List-sculpting exercise. I'm trying out ideas of a protective mask of some sort. Babylonian influence for hair and beard as well. The sword is a blade I created back in my AD&D gaming days, called "Backbiter"; a Chaotic blade of power. It is one of three blades to be used in Ragnarok. The others are aligned to Law and Neutrality. (You can see the Moorcock influence on GM'ing, neh?)

Which brings us to B'ko, my Dark Elf fighter/mage. He currently weilds Backbiter. I am heavily influenced by Jeff Dee's art. In actuality, it was Jeff Dee's art that pushed me from cartoons into drawing figures at a young age. (/dap to Mr. Dee.) I still dig the way he drew armor and fantasy gear. Prolly never get over it.

L'lndra is another Dark Elf, though a Priestess. Trying out some new hair styles though, usually it's the long, flowing tresses. I have figures converted from Chris Fitz's Dark Elf range from GW, for B'ko and L'lndra. But since I'm sculpting, it's worth giving my guys a shot.

The images below are icons and clothing. The masks are mental exercises on how something would work. The clasp with links falling down was used on a conversion sculpt of a Daemon of Slaanesh. It's a loincloth of sorts, with the clasp at the waist and the links of scales falling down. Inspired by the work from Gustav Klimt, specifically "Danae" and "The Kiss". Bonus points to the person who translates the iconographic references and interprets the meaning.

Sketchbook

Sketch for a conversion I want to create using the Living Saint as the foundation. Inspired by the Breaking Benjamin song "Evil Angel". I'm wondering if I could paint it entirely in sepia tones?

Lucky poo.

LOL!

What's funny is I'm sure I've seen people with them at school.

Finished Sculpt: Kubla Khan

Enjoy!

Sculpting

Trying my hand at 28mm sculpting. It's a lot different from larger sculpts I've done, but I knew it would take some getting used to.

Almost done. Only 2 days of work put in on it too.

Also finished converting my Possessed. Old school Slaanesh Champions with backpacks and resculpted parts.

And I got the last 3 Daemonettes to complete my first unit. Noice!
